“Nativo” is an ongoing series of works born out of the love and respect I have for the American Mustang as well as the hard working migrants that call this place home. The thoughts behind the art embrace an animal that has persisted in its drive for survival on this continent through shameful persecution— in like manner to the immigrants that have sought refuge here for hundreds of years. I have seen the same spirit, the same dignity and the same hope for freedom in the eyes of both. The Andean textile designs are a nod to my own family's South American migrant roots, and to the beautiful tapestry we weave as a diverse nation.
